If a local team is going to traverse the road to Rabobank Arena for the CIF State Basketball Championships late this month, it's going to have to go through top seeds.
Liberty's and Ridgeview's boys teams both drew No. 8 seeds when brackets were unveiled Sunday after the Patriots won the Division II Central Section title and the Wolf Pack won D-III.
That means they get a home state playoff game at 7 p.m. Tuesday -- Liberty (22-8) against Alhambra-Mark Keppel (24-6) and Ridgeview (25-5) against North Hollywood-Harvard-Westlake (25-5). But it also means that a win brings them into a matchup with a No. 1 seed.
Liberty would have to travel to Rialto-Eisenhower (28-5) in Thursday's second round, and Ridgeview would get Gardena-Serra (30-2).
It's a similar story in the girls brackets, where Stockdale has the No. 9 seed in Division I and travels to Carson on Tuesday. A win there, and the Mustangs would get No.
