Scott Pounds made a last-lap pass of 2008 track champion Gary Dutton to win an exciting 30-lap IMCA Modified main event Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway.

Dutton dominated most of the race but a late race caution allowed Pounds to get close enough to make a move underneath him coming off the final turn and win a drag race to the finish line.

"I'm going to turn 50 this year," Pounds said. "I haven't raced in two years. But once you got it, you don't lose it."

Dutton crossed the finish line second followed by Brad Pounds, Jay Marks, and Chris Ennis.

"Once again I missed in three," Dutton said after acknowledging that he jumped the berm in the turn and had to get off the gas allowing Scott Pounds to get the winning run on him.

Gary Mayhew led until lap six when he lost control and spun out on the apex of turns three and four.
