Bakersfield College baseball coach Tim Painton rattled off several words following the Renegades' game Tuesday against Los Angeles Mission College.
None were complimentary.
"Pathetic, embarrassing, humiliating, non-competitive -- any adjective you can think of," he said.
The Renegades had just lost to Mission 20-8 in a game that wasn't even that close. Mission (13-11 overall, 8-7 Western State Conference) scored at least one run in every inning after the first and had a 12-1 lead after batting in the top of the seventh.
The Renegades (8-16-1, 6-9 WSC) scored seven runs over the final three innings but simply dug too deep a hole.
Seven BC pitchers allowed 24 hits and walked seven. The defense didn't help, committing seven errors.
BC had a few highlights. Jarret Martin hit the game's only home run and also singled and doubled. Joey Walker had three hits and Bryan Haney hit a pinch-hit two-run double.
